Quentin Tarantino desperately wants us to think of his two Kill Bill ventures as one flick for the sake of calling The Hateful Eight his eighth film. Don't believe him and don't believe the hype surrounding his ninth film. Although his second western does provide an hour's worth of entertainment, the running time is that of almost three hours. Snappy dialogue and good performances only get you so far. A general lack of focus as well as a lack of stakes leaves The Hateful Eight about as aimless as the bullets which riddle the walls of Minnie's Haberdashery. Perhaps if Tarantino had sliced a page from the books that are his Kill Bill films, he would have given us someone to root for then The Hateful Eight would feel more anchored and the bounty would be worth the trouble.
Is it worth your time? No, especially considering there are plenty of other, more engaging stories in the Tarantino-verse.
