Review: The Revenant

If ever a book was destined to be a movie, it's Michael Punke's The Revenant. At heart it's a simple revenge tale, yet it's layered with varying complexities: emotionally, spiritually, and technically.

Everybody on board delivers: Oscar-winning Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's masterfully captures and balances the ferocious, chaotic action with the heavy, emotional scenes; Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography makes this one of the most gorgeous movies you'll ever see; and the cast turns in pitch perfect performances, particularly the great Tom Hardy and beloved Leonardo DiCaprio. DiCaprio has always let his eyes do the talking and no role better utilizes this talent. He'll at the least see an Oscar nomination. The Revenant is a haunting, visceral experience that will challenge you at almost every turn but will no doubt reward you with plenty of captivating questions.

Is it worth your time? Absolutely.
